***IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PATTI FOY, SCMEA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR***

Dear SCMEA Members,

Please forgive yet another message of concern, but we're not doing very well on luncheon ticket purchases for the conference this year...we've sold only 80 tickets and we normally sell 175. In the economic times we face, it is understandable that people aren't anxious to spend $15 on a lunch. However, anybody who purchases the lunch buffet in the hotel is going to pay $13 for that experience, so $2 more is not very much, especially considering the difference in quality between the two.
In order to qualify for the prices we get on conference rooms, SCMEA has to guarantee it will spend $12,500 on "catered" food (not the restaurant), and if we don't honor the minimum, our contract states that we will be charged that much anyway. The luncheon goes a long way toward helping us meet our food minimum. While we must give a final number of lunches to the hotel before next week, I can take additional lunch reservations until this coming Friday (Jan 29). I urge you to attend the luncheon and encourage your colleagues to attend as well. It is a good meal, and provides an excellent opportunity to visit with fellow music teachers. An added bonus will be the opportunity to hear from Dr. Jim Rex, State Superintendent of Education!
There are a lot of fixed costs associated with running a conference and it is likely our revenues from this year's conference are not going to cover the expenses. Please help us to increase our revenues by urging our colleagues to purchase lunch tickets. Again, I can reserve them until Friday, Jan. 29, if people will e-mail me with the request.

Looking forward to seeing you in Charleston!
